Congratulations to 's November 2011 Student of the Month, Daniel Lau. The provided this information to Patch.
One phrase that describes November 2011’s Student of the Month would be "renaissance man." Daniel Lau, in addition to outstanding school work and sports, manages to find time to do the things he loves, creating an extremely well rounded persona.
On the sports front, Daniel has played tennis for Mountain View for four years. In fact, one of his favorite school memories came from tennis when as a freshman, he placed 2nd in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVALS) Junior Varsity. Moreover, Daniel plays roller hockey for Mountain View (who actually does have a team) and has been playing since he was a kid. He also likes to play ping pong and badminton for fun.

When Daniel isn’t on the court or on the rink, he can be found giving back to the community channeling his service through his passions. For instance, he used to play tennis for the Mountain View Junior Team Tennis league and now he gives back to the league by umpiring matches. Furthermore, Daniel isn’t just any volunteer but the administrative director, meaning he organizes the other umpires and sends out key information to the players. Daniel also volunteers at Stanford Hospital.
Daniel is also very involved on the school campus. He is Vice President for ODTTC (ping pong club) and community service commissioner for the mandarin and ACTT clubs. Daniel participates in these clubs because he has a genuine interest in architecture and learning more about his culture.

On the academic front, Daniel excels with his outstanding 4.66 GPA. Daniel really enjoys all of the math classes that he has taken, especially Trigonometry Honors with Brian Perryman and Calculus BC AP with Jim Forthoffer. Daniel hopes to use his love of math in a technical degree, probably in some sort of engineering. In the future Daniel wants to attend UCLA.
