Schools Awarded for Helping Students Succeed

The LUCHA and El Cafecito programs at MVHS and LAHS receives prestigious Glenn W. Hoffmann Awards from County; Mariano Castro School given honorable mentions.

Two programs, each at one of the local high schools, have been declared the winners of a prestigious regional award.

The Santa Clara County School Boards Association (SCCSBA) announced on Tuesday that the LUCHA program at and El Cafecito at have been awarded the Glenn W. Hoffmann Awards, an annual recognition for work that postively impacts students success.

The awards honor Glenn W. Hoffmann, a county school superintendent from 1967 to 1984, who believed in leadership as key factor in educational reform.

The two school programs were chosen from a group of 13 schools.

In Mountain View, the received an honorable mention for their Passport to Success program.

The program with the highest score from the 13, will also receive the "Kristi Porter Award," on Wednesday, April 25 at a 6 p.m. during an awards dinner and Ceremony at Fiorillo’s Restaurant, 638 El Camino Real, Santa Clara CA.

Porter served as the Santa Clara County School Board Association President for 2002-03.
