Triumphant Cheer Team Needs Your Cast-off Gadgets

The Los Altos High School Cheer Team, which utterly dominated the regional competition last month in Antioch, raising money to go to nationals in Southern California by collecting your old computer stuff.

For Los Altos High School cheerladers, the road to national competition is littered with old computer monitors.

...And old TVs, old laptops, old cell phones, mice, telecom equipment, peripherals, and all manner of flotsam and jetsam of a technology-oriented  society. They are holding an e-waste collection March 3 fundraiser at LAHS to take them to the next level.

After dominating the regional competition and taking home 1st place Jan. 14, the cheer team has to raise money, and fast—they're going to Disneyland!

The top-scoring team has to raise money to compete in the USA Spirit National Championships on March 30 at the "Happiest Place on Earth."

And, they're looking good. In the January USA Regional competition at Deer Valley High School in Antioch, the team, according to Darelda Medina, received the highest judged score in the program's history, and in the process, beat two-time National Champions, Notre Dame.

They are coached by Nikia Crawley and consists of team members Allie Barreira, Anastassiya Bronnikova, Roxanne Cardenas, Carly Cohen, Lauren Costa, Annie Frates, Jordan Garvey, Monica Hsu, Morgan Jaffe, Jerusalen Jimenez, Emily Laurance, Cathy Liu, Jocelyn Marin Melo, Esperanza Medina, Nicole Miller, Nathalie Preciado, Roxanne Rogers, and Jackie Simion.

The e-waste fundraiser will help with travel expenses to the national competition.

The team is also looking for monetary donations and corporate sponsorships. For more information please contact Coach Nikia Crawley at losaltoscheercoach@yahoo.com.

The E-Waste Collection will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Los Altos High School, 201 Almond Ave., Los Altos. They will accept monitors, TVs, computers, laptops, cell phones, telecom equipment, wire/cable, PC boards, scrap metal, mice, keyboards, printers, fax and copy machines, stereo equipment, DVD/CD/MP3 players, microwave ovens, small appliances and more. No fluorescent light bulbs or alkaline batteries will be accepted.
