Shoreline Lake's New Outrigger Community Days!

Shoreline Lake's Aquatic Center is now home to Ho’oku’i (Hawaiian for "to join together”), the Bay Area's newest outrigger canoe club. Given the excitement both adults and kids generate for this ancient and thrilling sport – especially kids (keikis) – Shoreline and Ho’oku’i are inviting everyone to free, monthly Community Days (initially March 31st & April 28th, from 10am-2pm, with additional dates posted shortly) that will include seminars and hands-on outrigger action on the Lake.

As the only place in the lower Peninsula/upper South Bay area to check out the action, it’s a unique opportunity to see, and be part of, a six-person outrigger crew driving a 400 pound, 45-foot long, 20-24 inch wide sleek canoe, by paddling at 64-68 strokes per minute as one powerful and gracefully precise unit.

Practice times are on Saturdays (from 8-11am) up until the racing season begins, and after April 1st will then shift to 5:30pm-7:30pm (Monday-Thursday) through the end of July.
