The key road victory moved the Lancers into a tie for second place with St. Ignatius and also set up the possibility of a three-way regular season tie if certain results play out next week.

Mitty blanked St. Francis early last month 1-0,frustrating the perennial league title contender during an 80-minute shutout.

In the first half, it was more of the same for the Lancers.

“We had plenty of scoring chances against them (Mitty) the first time, but we couldn’t get one in,” St. Francis head coach Dawn Hill said. “I think mentally once we saw one ball go into the back of the net again them, it really helped us finish the game off strong.”

After just over 140 minutes of game time against the Monarchs this season without a goal, Lancers senior Kelly Jarvis ended the drought and evened the game up at 1-1 with a goal in the 60th minute.

“The good thing about winning the league title is that you’re peaking at the right time,” Hill said. “If Mitty ties next week, we could all end up tied for first place going into the league tournament.”

Senior forward Cynthia Garcia added the game winning tally 10 minutes after Jarvis, putting the visitors ahead for good.

St. Francis has won the last two WCAL league tournaments, but a date against Presentation comes up on the docket first.

“The girls know they can play with anyone in our league,” Hill said. “This is time of year where you just need to keep winning, You need to be playing your best soccer now.”

The Lancers play a non-league match against Live Oak on Saturday in Morgan Hill before finishing up WCAL play against Presentation on Wednesday.
