Three Cheers for MVHS Soccer

Mountain View City Council and Assemblyman Paul Fong recognize the athletes for a successful winter season.

The Mountain View High School Girls and Boys Soccer teams received a public recognition at the council meeting on Tuesday night for their achievements on the soccer field.

The 2010-2011 winter season, which ended in March, had the Spartan Girls at the top of the leader board for the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL), De Anza division. Senior Kristen Belinsky, helped her team finish the regular season 6-0-4. The Spartan Girls lost to hometown rival St. Francis in the Central Coast Section (CSS) finals.

The Spartan Boys also advanced to the CSS finals by beating Menlo-Atherton High 2-0. Junior Lucas Mohageg poked home the first goal of the night in the 8th minute and a no-look, back touch from Senior Zack Wilson to Riley Hanley in the 76 minute resulted in the second and final goal for the Spartans. They lost to Bellarmine Prep with a respectable 3-2 in overtime.
