August is here, why not celebrate the new month by trying some of these great activities?


It’s the first weekend of the month and the last chance to catch , which runs until Aug. 5 at the . Follow the story of Tracy Turnblatt, a teenager with big dreams to dance for a television show, and ends up changing perceptions. And just remember, a girl can't have too much hairspray!

In case it didn’t make it into the weekly planner, the city's free summer concert series continues tonight at . Stop by and dance to the sounds of Caransarai as they perform a Tribute to Santana. Since it's in the park, consider bringing dinner, a folding chair or blanket to sit on. The concert takes place from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Speaking of parks, don't forget to pack up your picnic baskets and bring a blanket and head to  on Friday, Aug. 3 for an outdoor screening of The Muppets. The screening is FREE, so don’t miss it.

always has something to do on the weekend, starting tomorrow Aug. 3, Morgan Manifacier and Art Elliot will perform starting at 8 p.m., they are opened by Billy & Dolly. On Saturday, Dogcatcher celebrates their new album with Beni Ran Trio and the city of Mountain View, the music starts at 8 p.m. and a Sunday afternoon could always use bluegrass, Margaret & Victor oblige at noon.

This weekend is the  Santa Clara County Fair. Scheduled for Aug. 2-5 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in San Jose, the fair opens at 2 p.m. on Thursday, noon on Friday and runs both days to 9 p.m., Saturday hours are noon-10 p.m. and Sunday’s are noon-9 p.m. Gate tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children, parking at the fairgrounds is $5.

For those wishing to stay indoors this weekend, will show the remake of the 1980s Governator classic Total Recall. Midnight showings will start tonight at 12:01 a.m., Aug. 3.

remember to go to activities at your synagogue or church. these look like good activities while it is still summer season. the county fair could be redundant or repetitive in what goes on there. use good choice-making before venturing out, as usual
