Operation: Cookie Drop

The Girl Scouts visited Moffett Field to assist with the distribution of 33,600 boxes of cookies to military troops last Thursday.

Military personnel as far away as Fresno and other parts of California came to Moffett Field to pick up Girl Scout cookies and other donations last Thursday.

The distribution center was the U.S. Army Reserve Consolidated Motor Pool, 7th PSYOP Group/12th PSYOP Battalion.

When they arrived, a group of Milpitas Girl Scouts from Troop 60596 —Allison Eacret, Megan Brobst, Anna Chiang, Jennifer Bunnell, Megan Farley along with leaders Michelle Eacret, Stacy Brobst and Elaine Farley—were there to lend a hand.

During each cookie season through the "Gift of Caring" program, customers have the option of donating a box to a food bank or to troops overseas.

All Girl Scout troops in Milpitas sold a combined 636 boxes through the “Gift of Caring” last spring.

The overall distribution of cookies on Thursday consisted of 2,800 cases (12 boxes of cookies to a case). The distribution was organized by San Jose-based nonprofit Operation: Care and Comfort, which serves about 200 units overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and other conflict zones.

After a few hours, the Girl Scouts had loaded about three-fourths of the cookies that were distributed that day.
