Week Ahead: Food, Films and July 4th Fireworks

Things to do in Mountain View during the week of July 1st.

Stop by Steins Beer Garden for "Pork of July" a special three-course a-la-carte meal by Chef Colby Reade that includes Pork Belly Potato Salad, Pork Stravaganza Sandwich—three layers including his breakfast for dinner and the BLT or Pork Gumbo with braised spiced pork belly, and Bacon Berry Shortcake for dessert. East West Bookstore presents "Peace: A Buddhist Perspective" an opportunity to ask questions about traditional Tibetan Buddhist beliefs from six Venerable Monks from Namgyal Monastery, the main seat of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Donations suggested. Monday, July 1 at 7:30p.m. Come back on Wednesday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. for the film "Forks Over Knives" which looks at how a meat-based diet could cause degenerative diseases. Free, but call to reserve a seat. Located at 324 Castro St.

Stanford University’s Division of International, Comparative and Area Studies (ICA) Film Festival's first summer showcase is "Strike" (Germany/Poland, 2006) depicts a nearly illiterate woman who becomes one of the founders of Poland's Solidarity union. Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. at Cubberley Auditorium, 485 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305. Free and open to the public.

Every year Mountain View residents can get four free tickets to the City of Mountain View and Radio Disney's presentation of the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza at Shoreline Amphitheatre. For detail, please read this coupon. Even if the free tickets run out, bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy the display after dusk.
