Person Falls From Highway 101 Overpass In Mountain View

Updated at 1:40 p.m. with eyewitness information. Developing story.
A person has died and his body remained on the No. 1 lane of northbound Highway 101 at Rengstorff Avenue in Mountain View Friday morning.

The Mountain View Police Department and California Highway Patrol remain on the scene after Mountain View Fire crews left. Identity of person unknown.

"I can tell you that he deliberately jumped, was hit and/or run-over by a car
and died quickly," said an eyewitness inside one of the vehicles at the scene. He asked that his name not be used.

Calls began to arrive through the 9-1-1 dispatch about 10:45 a.m. The police have three eyewitnesses to the incident.

"I feel especially bad for the guy that hit him," the eyewitness told Patch. "Of course everyone on the scene told him, and it was pretty obvious that there was nothing he could have done to prevent it, he was nonetheless understandably very shaken up."

The subject's cell phone was located on the overpass. There was some visible traces of blood on the pavement.

The MVPD will handle the investigation.

Three lanes of northbound 101 have been closed. Expect hours of delays.
