Nearly 3 Dozen Car Break-Ins in Mountain View in Past 2 Weeks

A blitz of car break-ins -- at least 33 -- occurred citywide in the past two weeks, and the Mountain View Police Department reminds residents to leave nothing of value visible in their vehicles.

Such items as laptops, wrapped presents or cell phones left on seats make those cars more attractive to thieves, police said.

Mountain View is not alone in the crime wave. Palo Alto experienced a similar string of smash-n-grabs in late October and early November. And last week in one Livermore neighborhood, 19 cars were burglarized in one night. 

Vehicular burglaries of locked cars and/or thefts from unlocked vehicles in Mountain View were reported as follows:

• 9:21 p.m. at Smart & Final on the 100 block of East El Camino Real.

• 7:32 a.m. on the 2700 block of Garcia Avenue.
• 12:28 p.m. on the 200 block of View Street.
• 9:17 p.m., 9:34 p.m., 9:37 p.m. and 9:39 p.m. on the 900 block of West El Camino Real.

• 8:50 a.m. on 400 block of North Shoreline Boulevard.
• 9:13 a.m. on 2200 block of West El Camino Real.
• 12:04 p.m. on 500 block of West Middlefield Road.
• 9:04 p.m. and 9:51 p.m. on 700 block of California Street.
• 9:11 p.m. on 400 block of Hope Street.
• 9:15 p.m. West Dana and View streets.
• 9:16 p.m. and 10:08 p.m. on 200 block of View Street.
