Burn, Baby, Burn!

After 11 straight days of "Spare the Air," wood burning can resume Thursday.

Written by David Mills/Patch

The ban is broken.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has decided against calling a Winter Spare the Air alert for Thursday, Dec. 19.

That means wood burning will be allowed both indoors and outdoors.

The air quality district had ordered a record-breaking 11 straight Spare the Air alerts.

The cold, still weather of the past two weeks had prompted the alerts.

Stronger winds have moved into the Bay Area, blowing away some of the particulate matter that had been hugging the lower elevations since early December.

A wind warning is in effect until Thursday night in some East Bay regions.
