Rengstorff House Celebrates 20th Anniversary

More than 600 people attended the 20th anniversary celebration of the Rengstorff House on Sunday.

The Rengstorff House was built in 1864, making it the oldest standing house in Mountain View. The house was purchased by the city in 1979, and eventually moved to its present location in Shoreline Park, near the lake, and renovated. In 1991 the house was officially dedicated as a public facility by the city council, and it was this event that was celebrated Sunday, May 22nd.

The event was a joint effort by Shoreline at Mountain View, Friends of 'R' House, and the Mountain View Historical Association, and featured more than 40 living history exhibitors. Among the attractions was a collection of antique cars including an original Ford Model T, a blacksmith doing live demonstrations, an antique fan display and many others.

"This event is a way to bring a group of people together to celebrate the house, just as a group came together to save the house 20 years ago," said Kristina Perino, Senior Recreation Coordinator.

The event also featured many participants dressed in Victorian era clothes, children's activities such as a scavenger hunt, docent-lead informal tours of the house and a fashion show.
